6970 – Classic Space – Beta 1 Command Base : Back B

Hello Lego Classic Space lovers !

On this page we’re diving into one of those gems that perfectly capture the magic of the Classic Space era: an alternate back-of-the-box build from set 6970. Like many late-80s LEGO releases, this set didn’t just offer a main model — it also teased our imagination with additional spacecraft concepts printed on the packaging.

The model featured here is one of those alternate versions called “Back B” on the excellent back-of-the-box website. It was never officially released with dedicated instructions, and only a single image on the box hinted at its full design.

Below you’ll find my complete reconstruction, including step-by-step building instructions and a full inventory of required parts, so you can bring this forgotten spacecraft to life using only the elements from the original set.
